Bands

Nick Pugh Jazz' brings timeless jazz to any occasion. Blinding sophistication is not the aim - just an infectious swing that recalls the sophistication of a bygone era. The bands are made up from full-time professional musicians all of whom work regularly in London's West End and across the country. Their line-up can be adapted to suit almost any occasion. Sizes range from a compact trio to a five or six piece band with or without a vocalist. Repertoire is drawn from the timeless American songbook and other classic jazz standards.

We regularly play for Weddings, family celebrations, conferences and corporate launches. One of our strengths is to be able to play both unobtrusive background music and also play-up for listening and dancing. Sometimes your function will require one or the other of these, sometimes both.

Other Services

Nick has vast experience in recording, mixing and editing using both computer-based and hardware-based recording techniques. Works recorded and mixed by Nick have been released internationally and received air-play on BBC National and Local Radio.

Nicks specialism is recording acoustic ensembles ranging from a duo to a full orchestra. Most of the time such projects will be recorded using 'Multitrack' recording so that there are many more possibilities for editing, repairing and mixing as required. He works hard to capture the sound of each instrument as purely as possible resulting a clean and true representation of the live music. Nick also offers a mix/edit/repair only service for material that has been recorded elsewhere.

Nick uses 'Sibelius' score writing software to produce high quality scores and parts for any size of ensemble.

Clients have included Frank Griffith and the Pete Cater Big Band. Work for Frank was for his 'Nonet' and also typesetting his work for the publishing company Studio Music. Pete Cater used Nick as copyist for some of his recent album 'The Right Time'. Examples of smaller projects include creating jazz quartet parts for saxophonist Simon Spillett and piano trio parts for John Critchinson.

Parts can either be printed or sent back to you as a PDF for your own printing and archive purposes.
